RIMS(IN ORDER OF HIGHEST COST AND BEST TONAL CONSIDERATIONS):

Greator than neck wood, your choice of wood for the body will affect the tone of your instrument most.

  • Tony Pass Lost Timbre Birch (Recovered from Lake Superior – 150+ years old) – brightest, most volume, balanced tone;
  • We have only use Tony Pass Rims for our banjos.   After experimenting with other woods and rim styles we have concluded the Tony Pass Rims are the best rim to use in our banjos.

TONAL CONSIDERATION THAT ARE BEING SOUGHT IN PINEYWOODS LINE

  • 11" Lost Timbre ALL WOOD - earthy, mellow and velvety smooth plunkiness.
  • 11” Lost Timbre EKlytes -  Less twangy, plunky sound
  • 11” Lost Timbre EKlectric - Wider response range, more twang, and a nice low side – Fairbanks Whyte Ladie goal
  • 12" Lost Timbre ALL WOOD - earthy, mellow and with a deeper plunk and minor tubby sound.
  • 12” Lost Timbre EKlytes – Richer, more plunky tone, not as bright and less volume than the 11”.
  • 12” Lost Timbre EKlectric – Wider response range, less twange than an 11”, richer low side – West Virginia banjo made 30 years ago is the goal which was patterned after Fairbanks Whyte Ladie

All of the above can be pushed more or less twangy, brighter, and louder with tone ring adjustments, heads and bridges.   Tell me how you play, what you like in banjo and I will tailor your tone just for you.

Some folks like to have all kinds of options to choose from, others want me to pick it all out.    There is nor rush to decide.

Take your time and we’ll figure it out.   Now is the time to decide and not after the banjo is completed.   There is no accouting for taste.
